My Gardening Philosophy

Gardens are very personal things, revealing as much about the person who designs and tends them,as they do about soil and climate.
It will not take long for you to realise that I am a selective plantaholic.I do however, have a couple of quirky rules which limit the choice of plants I grow in my little plot of earth.
I will not grow anything which fights back....so no thorns and no highly irritant sap.My first garden was full of berberis, brambles and blackthorn bushes which tore me to shreds. This garden evolved from bare earth and I decided that no plants I grew here would inflict injury.
I do not grow acid yellow flowers.I simply don`t like the colour and I cut the buds off plants like cineraria before they get chance to open,so that I can still use the leaves in my planting schemes.
I do not follow fashion. I cherry pick ideas, using only techniques and plants which I feel complement my style of gardening.
Plants should have a long period of interest or,if they are fleeting, they must be stunning.Where possible I use varieties which have lovely scented flowers and/or attractive foliage and good autumn colour.
Anything which has died on me twice will not be planted again!

So come and join me in a celebration of some of the prettiest flowers that flourish here.I hope it may inspire you to have a go. If you feel overwhelmed by the task which lies ahead, remember that a walk of a thousand miles begins with the first step and take a look at how my garden used to look.
